First of all, I didn't pay a lot but I liked the fact it had a box.  I would guess it is from 1930-1950's? Can't find anything on the web.  Because it contains mercury - isn't it older than that? I have the box and bottle with screw cap in above average condition.

So, can anyone date this and tell me if it's real or a fake. It is worth anything?
The label states: Palmer's Antiseptic Lotion for minor cuts, burns, insect bites and first aid for injuries to the skin. Contains bichloride of mercury 0.18%, alcohol by volume 70%, turpentine, sweet almond oil, balsam of Peru oil of bitter almonds, oil of cloves. Prepared only by Solon Palmer New York 2 oz. Used successfully as a household remedy since 1848.

hi wrangler88,  welcome to the forum.  i don't think that is a fake.   most reproductions are older bottles.  i found a listing for a older bottle dr.e r palmer's rheumatic liniment auburn, new york in matt's book. could be related.  are there any markings on bottom of the bottle?  sometimes makers marks can help date bottles.   nice bottle.  rhona

Hey Mark, Rhona's right. It's the real thing and she's right about the makers mark too.

The real dangers of mercury were not recognized until later in the 1900s. About the late 1950s. It is stil used in an amalgum form is fillings for teeth.

There mark on the bottom is a 2 in a small circle. I tried to get a picture but it didn't come out - but you can also see Palmer's lotion on the side.  So, what would be a reasonable guess as to the value?
