My grandfather used to have this green bottle in his house when he was alive. I remember seeing it in the late 70's as a child so it has to be at least that old.

Anyway, as I remember it was about 3 feet tall or so... it had a large round base.... I think there might have been some brown twine/rope wrapped around the bottom half of the base but I could be mistaken. The neck of the bottle was made of a fish eating a smaller fish eating a smaller fish eating a smaller fish and so on, up to the top, where I believe there was a cork and a string of the same type as was on the bottom of the bottle, holding the cork so it wouldnt get lost when uncorked.

My dad thinks it was a wine bottle of some type.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an interesting bottle, it has me stumped. see if you can find a picture of one similar to it on the internet and then maybe someone who knows a little more about these types of bottles than me, good luck.

Well, I searched all over the net yesterday for a picture... The closest I came was this bottle from ANTINORI WINE. The bottle my grandfather had had similar fishes on it, but as I said, they were eating each other, as they got smaller and smaller up to the top.

I have never seen one like that, but if I run across something I'll let you know. The best page on the internet for fish bottles that I can find is the one on Digger Odell's site, but it doesn't list the one you mentioned. I'll keep an eye out for it. Webpage mentioned:

I saw a similar bottle at a flea market last week... maybe this extra info will be enough for someone else to ID this for me?...

The bottle I saw was a single fish like the bottle pictured above, however it had a wider, rounded bottom too it, which was partially covered in, um, dried straw?  The topper to it was made of the same straw material and had loose ends sticking out the top.  The label on the bottle at the flea market said that it was a wine bottle, and the maker was "Ferrari Carano" ??

Anyone have any ideas?

ahhh ok the thing to the right of the display stand.  Your dad's right, it's a spirits bottle. More than likely an Italian liquor. Are you trying to replace the bottle?
