Hello: My grandmother and grandfather assisted in a clean-up project approximately 30 years ago in which they dug up numerous bottles of all types. My grandmother now wants me to look into the value of some of the bottles for a recommendation to auction, sell, or recycle. This is the first of many that I will be asking about on her behalf. I am trying to build my knowledge of what is and is not valuable in the bottle world as I find it to be a very interesting search. I am very glad that I found this site and please feel free to contribute any advice and information that will make my posts easier to read and any pertinent information that I have left out of the description. She and I greatly appreciate your assistance! This bottle is 5 and 3/4 inches tall, 3 inches wide, and approximately 1 and 1/2 inches deep. In my mostly unsuccessful attempt to research the item on my own all I discovered is the seam on the side's prominence means it would be made after 1900. Is this accurate? I live in Johnson City Tennessee and in my WWW search I could find nothing about the Phillips & Waters Liquors in Johnson City. I don't know if this label means that the liquor was actually made here or not. I assume that perhaps I will need to go to City Hall to get good information, but I would prefer to ask the bottle experts if it would be worth looking for before I search Microfiche. Johnson City was formerly known as "Little Chicago" as it was a residential area for Al Capone during Prohibition since it is geographically between Chicago and Miami. My hope beyond hope is perhaps that this liquor was ran by Mr. Capone in the 20's. I realize this is a long shot. I am also hoping that the lack of info on the liquor company may make the bottle rare, and hence valuable for my grandmother. The picture on the glass seems quite unique to me. Please feel free to give any information on the history behind pictures on bottles. I want to know everything that I can. The picture seems to be in good condition. There has been a little discoloration on the light blue background from what looks to be rust. Also the border of the picture seems a little rusty. Is that metal behind the label or is it just the degeneration of the picture? The back of the bottle is what I would call a "washboard"design, with 12 ridges that begin at the left side of the bottle and ascend to the right. Somewhat like a backslash design. This is not the actual name for the way the glass is and I would appreciate being able to speak intelligently even with my lack of knowledge so please tell me what to call that sort of thing. There is no writing on the glass or lid other than the on the label. I will check back often over the past few days. If you need any further information or would like a different picture from a certain area please specify. We thank you VERY MUCH for your help!!!
