Hello Doug,

This lid is one of the more available pot lids although I do not have this version. This appears to be the first of this style after Bazin bought out Roussel in 1849. There is another version with the adress at 166  Chesnut Street and then a latere one with just Philadelphia as an adress.

Hi Dan,
This lid is one of the commonest U S  lids found and comes with several different adresses  and is also found in black print etc.

This one is slightly earlier than the piece you found

Found the Bottom Half About a Week Later...

What are the odds? I found the top half of this Bazin's Shaving Cream pot lid a couple of weeks ago in the dump that I've been digging. I thought that it was cool so I kept it. Well, today I found the bottom but I didn't know for sure until I got it home and noted that it was a perfect match. Now, that's just way cool! Same dump Different day!!! Go figure!!!

Hi Dan,
that is way cool...
just finding the other half later at the same dump makes the story really nice as a pass down story to tell. I would either do a display frame or box...so, I'd make sure to write the story down with that one and tuck it in together. Loved seeing the other pics also. I'm learning a lot here from everyone else..

The red bazins are perhaps the most common of all US lids behind the thorns. Have never heard of one making $350 unless it had the origional paper lable instrunctions on the base.  The Philly eagle lids as Trog advises come with either no address, 144 or 166 chestnut. There are also different sizes. Color variations are known in blue and black.
