I found this bottle this weekend. It is in perfect condition. Can someone help me identify it? At the top of the bottle it says " Federal Law forbids the sale or reuse of this bottle" It is embossed AA on the side.

I see that there have been a lot of people look at my bottle. From readiing I have done on this site, i get the idea it must be after 1920. I am more interesred in wht the embossed AA means and what the contents of the bottle was. I forgot to mention that embossed on the back of the bottle is what looks like to me a segmented worm in a half circle. Could this have been worm medicine?
Thanks Brad

i have seen this bottle a few times before and i tried to research on the internet but have not had any luck yet. i can tell you this for sure it is an alcohol bottle . the embossing on the top above the double a monogram says federal law prohibits... was used on spirits bottles of that time period.

Brad, I have a bottle that looks like the one shown, but mine is very large. 28" tall, 29" around. It has the Double A's on the front and that worm looking thing on the back. but mine doesn't have the federal warning on it. Is yours that large? Have you found anything else out about it. I bought mine, I think about 1982, at an antique store here in Austin. The two older ladies that sold it to me said it was a perfume Advertising bottle, used in stores on the counter to get peoples attention. I would like any thoughts on this that anyone migt have.

Hello everyone. I don't know what brand of liquor your bottle held, but as diggerjeff says, it was alcohol of some type. The "Federal Law Prohibits Resale or Reuse of this Bottle" statement was used on all American whiskey (or other alcoholic beverage) bottles between 1933-1970. (1933 was the end of prohibition.)

Gary, the "little old ladies" that sold you your large bottle were half right. Being a large size and without the "Federal Law..." etc. on it fairly well cinches it as an advertising display piece for whatever whiskey company "AA" was. Definitely not a perfume, even though there are large display bottles for perfume. I have seen advertising bottles for several brands of whiskey with complete labels. Some of them had the "Federal Law" bit embossed on them even though they were empty.

Hope this helps.

Guys I did some searching on the Internet and found a reference to An A. A. Watt Distillery. Info below:
Tyrconnell Single Malt Irish Whiskey

The classic smooth Irish Single Malt. In the Northwest of Ireland lies an ancient Gaelic kingdom called Tyrconnell which when translated from Gaelic means "Land of O'Donnell". The O'Donnells were, prior to colonisation, one of the most powerful Gaelic noble families. The territory is famous for its distilling tradition. One of the oldest distilleries in the region and reputed to be the first distillery in the world to install a patent still, established in 1762, was Andrew A. Watt.

The Watt's flagship brand was the world famous "The Tyrconnell" Pure Pot Still Single Malt Irish Whiskey. The brand name Tyrconnell Single Malt originates from the A.A. Watt Distillery in Derry.

In 1876 the Watt family entered a horse appropriately named "The Tyrconnell" in the Irish Classic horse race "The National Produce Stakes". Incredibly it won at 100 to 1. This spectacular achievement inspired the Watt Distillery to celebrate the occasion with a special commemorative Tyrconnell label.

The Tyrconnell has been embraced by whiskey lovers and is the fastest growing Irish single malt
I'm wondering if the A A could be a mark on the bottle to denote this distillery and the Tyrconnell Labels are gone with the age. It is a mystery Thanks Guys

Roger, Thanks Another A A reference, the bottle design is not the same, And The AA on my bottle is apart of the bottle, raised lettering in a fancy script.

This is an Ancient Age whiskey bottle, and not a very old one at that. I remember my father pouring highballs from these bottles. 1950s I would say, maybe into the 1960s.

I have seen many of these same bottles -too many- on Florida river-bottoms. Covered in silt and/or algae, these bottles look mighty interesting. It is a corker, after all. But then, when the "AA" embossed on the shoulder is detected, I just throw them aside.
