As a few of you may know I dug a stone privy with my 72 yr old digging partner. It turned out to be maybe the best hole ever dug for Steubenville Bottles!

Up until now there was no known bitters from Steubenville, Ohio. The Newly discovered "NIEMAN'S / GERMAN STOMACH BITTERS / STEUBENVILLE, OHIO". This was the best botle to come out of the hole. The next best was a "perfect" "BICKAR & SIEBEL / STEUBENVILLE, O." quart lightning soda. The list goes on. Here are the photos with a brief description.

I did that because I lost all my text and photos while trying to post last night.

This was the fisrt hole we dug in the lot. It turned out to be too deep for the little bit coming out so we filled it in at 20 feet.

This is the site if the "stone-liner" Very easy to spot in a well used paved lot.

A view east of the hole looking towards the West Virginia Border.

Me breaking out the asphalt.

Once you get so deep you need a ladder. This hole bottomed out around 18 feet or so.

me looking out of the hole at my craigc90 and Charlie

This of of Craig in the Brick lined well, 25 feet from the Stone liner.

here we are uncoverring the well on the second day.

Me looking out of the hole at about 20 feet deep!

I thought I'd break it up into two posts.

This is a rusty layer of glass at 20 feet deep in the well. Notice, the probe is buried five feet deep. I dug down another foot and hit water so was filled it in.

Here is a photo of the first hole 3/4 filled and us getting the second hole started. Notice the tarp canopy to fight the elements.

Here we are beginning the second day on the hole.

Me showing off me "Buff" digger physique.

One of the rare times I got into the hole. Being the only able bodied male to pull buckets, until Craig would show up, kept me up top.

Here we are at the end of day two. What a hole!!! That is my nephew Tyler.

Some of the bottle up for pick. My partner took the bottles home both nights and we picked Saturday morning.

A broken Rooster Punkinseed.

The Steubenville Bitters

Ultra rare "Sharp's Bottling Works Steubenville, Ohio" Beer

A "Bickar and Siebel" quart lightning of questionable origin. The one we dug was perfect and the one he put up for picks had old substancial damage to the lip. But that is a whole nother story.

Some of my picks. It's odd that there were bottles we dug that didn't make it to the picks on Saturday. I'm just saying.

some of the bottles I filled the hole in with. My brother and Charlie were going to through them to make sure nothing good was there.

The holes filled in.

Here's a few of the cleaned up photos

My shelf of Steubenville bottles after several recent additions.

This is the best non-bottle find. Isn't it gorgeous!

A rare "S.L. SHARP" Steubenville Beer.

Another scarce Steub. Bottle

I dug one of these with Digger Ryan a couple of yrs ago.
 A nice local bottle

Nice druggist it's an upgrade for me because my old one was cloudy.

Swiss Stomach Bitter from Birmingham Pa. which is a suburb of Pittsburgh.

Another local druggist I used to replace a chipped example I had.
A Philly Beer that we dug two variations of. The other had the man's name on the front also and this one has his monogram on the reverse.

I'm thinking Champagne Bottle with the double ring and it also had a high kick-up.
Well I guess that's it. The way I got hosed on splitting it up is a whole nother thread. Only word come to mind though is thief!!!

Here is some of the stuff I got for helping. I was picking bottles with character for Tylers collection. We like the weird and odd colored stuff.

I also got a nice pipe and a three gallon stoneware jug and a few odds and ends.I had very little time invested in this compared to Zane and did not expect to much in return but got some very nice stuff thanks to him. He is being very modest and much calmer then I would be about Questionable bottles and picks. But live and learn.

I thought you were joking about this throughout the thread, but then I saw craigc90's comment at the end..............so I guess you're not joking.
You need to call him on it............I've had a couple of run-ins with the bottle greedy and it's not at all Okay

Great dig story and photos!

Excellent pics guys. What a great dig. Used to have pits like that around here. Can't get to them since I caused hurricane Katrina and tried to wip out all them folks in New Orleans.

I agree with Dabeel, I would call him on it too. That or he would not dig with me anymore. Been there too. Dug a few times with a turd who was always trying to get over on me. When I would dig a good one it was always very valuable and he wanted me to pay him half if I wanted to keep it. If he dug a good one it wasn't worth anything and he would offer a few dollars like I was some kind of dumb ass. Last dig with him I told him to get lost before I beat the crap out of him and kept all the bottles. No one will dig with him now and he is a dryed up little turd and can barely do the digging.

Call him on it!!!

Killer dig guys. I'd be looking for the older hole on that lot if there is one the way they were drinking. I wouldn't sweat that double ring green bottle, its a junker and isn't worth 2 bucks. Good luck on the next hole.

Zane, those are some great pictures. What a great dig, I would have loved to have been a part of that.

Can you walk me through the steps of posting pics like that from photobucket? I faught with that for a long time yesterday and never did get it to work. I ended up posting a link to a slideshow instead.
