I found two dumps today after a good bit of hiking. Neither were very old. The first one was mostly scrap metal but the second had a bunch of bottles. I didnt have a lot of time but managed to find a few keepers. Heres the milks. A Turkey Hill and a Rutters.

Some sodas. The Plitts was nice when I dug it but some of the paint flaked off while it was drying. Anyone know how to clean these good. I used luke warm soapy water and they cleaned up great but when they dried a few flaked off.

Its possible they will flake no matter what. i would suggest any painted label you dig you leave alone for at least a week. The paint seems to become "wet" for lack of a better word after being buried for a time. i let it sit a while then wipe it off lightly and if paint seems to hold clean it better. I suggest using bar keepers friend it seems to help clean labels with out scratching or taking off solid paint. it also helps to take off the burn from dumps that were burned and if it is real dirty or rusty try making a paste and leaving it on bottle for awhile. A strong word of warning is don't wipe dirt off a freshly dug painted label to see what it says. i have seen it become a big smear from doing so.

Druggistnut The College Club is from Windsor, PA but Im not sure where the White Lightnin comes from. No info on the bottle says where its from. These two were my favorites and the paint was good on them. It must be a different kind of paint on some of these. I also dug a perfect NEHI which completely peeled off while drying. Ive always had bad luck with the NEHI bottles. This is the back of the White Lightnin.

I grew up in York and miss the Orange Turkey Hill Tea, and of course Martin's BBQ chips.

Where are you in York? I'm in the township near Apple Hill right off the trail . Got a promising possible dump in Glen Rock I wanna hit when the weather get warm,it's a feeder that dumps into Codorus creek. I just need some help clearing out the briars and such from what I have found I believe it may be worth the the effort.PM me if ya get the chance.

pabottles that sounds good. Ive got a few bottles from Glen Rock that my Uncle gave me a while ago. I think Hoover is the name on at least one of them. Ive never really dug around down there much so that would be fun.

Cool you have to walk in the water to get to the spot, that's why I think it will yield some high quality stuff. One of the reasons is it's not really accesable by land and unless you're a bottle hunter/collector you wouldn't really know it's a dumping area. I found it when I was trout fishing down that way and caught a glimmer of broken glass and pottery shards.Anyways let's give it a look see when it gets warm out again.

kastoo I believe youre right. The first Turkey Hill Minit Market was opened in Lancaster, PA but I think Kroger bought the chain in the 1980's. Im not sure if you can find Turkey Hill products out west but theyre popular around here (York, PA) and some other states on the East coast. There Green Tea is my favorite thing to drink.
