Hey Taz...

Jim... that's pretty neat!   It would really complete the collection of several different colors/sizes of the "Hoods" sasaparilla bottles... Cool

It dosent appear to be very old. I wonder what its origins are? Something from one of those New England decorative items mail order catalogs maybe?

Maybe it came from the same workshop as the item i posted back in this thread...

Look's like someone made it or it's from a company like Salmon Falls Pottery.

Hi and welcome back Wayne! I have got to agree with you all on the looks of this piece...... I have been researching Hood's and did come up with this info, they had been in buisiness up till 1922. I didnt find any info on this jar/mug but I did find a ceramic sewing thimble they gave away as a advertising giveaway thing....This item stands about 4" tall and the  base glazing has some crazing, maybe in time some more info on it may surface. Thanks! Taz

That hoods jar is only 4" tall??? I didnt realize it was that small.  That actually bodes in its favor for being a real piece. It still doesnt look quite right though IMO.

Are there any markings on the base a picture would help. Usually on older pieces there is the tell tale sign of staining from use or just sitting around they will pick up dirt and keep it forever.

Mystery solved! I found another listing for this item on ebay, seems as though they had been made in 1974 for a medicine show!  Taz http://cgi.ebay.com/Miniature-Early-American-Style-Crockery-w-Sarsaparilla_W0QQitemZ160058332765QQihZ006QQcategoryZ86QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
