Try sand and some water.  It works well and wont harm the bottle.  Or get a bottle brush.  But the last technique is to get a coat hanger and glue on some cloth to the end.  But the sand and water is the best trick.  I would just get that going and sit to watch a show while swirling it around and dump it out then rinse.  Nice and clean.  Good luck.  And welcome the the forum.  Bunch of nice people here.

Welcome Becky. How about starting a new thread in chat and tell about yourself. What you collect, do you dig etc.. I'd love to see a few pics too. Eric

I've never had a hutch (except rabbit) but they look like just from the closure and glass thickness they have a narrow opening.
I'll have to pick one up and look next time I see one.

You can get the stoppers, to replace the one in the bottle, if you desire.
Get a tupperware container about 3-4 times larger than the bottle. Mix a 50/50% solution of Muriatic acid and water (pour the acid in to the water, not the opposite), enough to fill and cover the hutch. Leave it for a week, covered but able to vent. This should be done in a garage or outdoors, if weather permits.
When you get it out of the bath, wear surgical/rubber gloves, unless you like to feel the burn. You should be able to remove the metal piece now, if it hasn't disappeared. Rinse the bottle in a baking soda/water solution and then rinse with water.
I use plastic coat hangers that I have cut to shape, to root around in bottles. They don't damage the glass and if you leave a small curve on the end, it can dislodge things that are wedged.
Good luck.
Bill
