I picked up this nice Green very crude Wax sealer today, it is embossed STAR GLASS Co. NEW ALBANY, IND. I think this is an early one with a pontil mark on the base, I am guessing from 1870 -1880.

Really like that color on a crude jar like that. I think your right on the mfg. time frame, but I'm not sure that's a pontil mark. Could it just be some defect from mfg.?

The star glass co is circa 1867-1870's and the lid should have an embossed star on it according to the creswick books. Now the Toulouse book indicates that they may have started as early as 1855 up to 1900 and they also made the weir jars. The book also indicates that the jars were " very crudely handmade round with pressed laid-on-ring" Nice find either way!!!

Hi Red nice to see you back on here, The Creswick book is "The Fruit Jar Works Vol 1 & 2 and was reprinted in 1995 by Douglas M. Leybourne jr with Alice Creswick as contributing editor. There is a more extensive book on fruit jars (The Standard Fruit Jar Reference, by Dick Roller) but its way out of my price range!!!
