This torch was used for nighttime processions during the presidential campaign for GRANT. It features a January 2, 1880 patent denoting that it was created by “A. & W. Mfg. of Chicago.” The glass bowl is 10” x 4” square frame.

Just a matter of typing in the correct "Key Words" in my Google search Joe, the one pictured sold at auction in 2006 for $650....

The patent indicated that the whole thing is a model for a ballot box. They would have a large glass container that voters dropped their ballets in. I love finding these out of the ordinary glass items.
