I know, everyone needs help cleaning a bottle.

I don't have a tumbler, and I was wondering if someone would tell me how to get some rust and a milky white film out of one of my favorite bottles?

I've tried some basic cleaners/CLR with a tooth brush with no change, so is there a acid or something that will remove it?  If so, how do I go about using it, and what kind do I use?  How do I dispose of it when I'm done?

Thanks for any help,
Chuck

Go to the hardware store and get some meratic acid and mix it 50/50  half gallon to half gallon, mix it out side the fumes will knock you out don't breath it, wear rubber gloves& glasses put the bottle or bottles in and let it sit  a few hours and check it. It wont hurt the glass so you can leave it in as long as it takes. it works for me. Rick To dispose of it I add a lot more water and dump it out side in the woods or grass.

One more question, is it ok to mix it in a plastic 5 gallon bucket?

Thanks.

Mix it only in plastic. A five gallon bucket is fine. Make sure you sit the bucket away from plants and any thing you don't want stained. The fumes will stain most anything and kill all plants.  Also have a bucket or two of water handy so you can dip your bottles after you take them out of the acid.  I made a hook from heavy copper wire to slip around the neck of the bottles and lift them out and dip them in the water.

When I dispose of muratic I use a pound of baking soda to neutralize it and then mix with plenty of water before I pour it out.

Thank you guys very much.

Can you reach in the bucket with thick rubber gloves to remove the bottles?

yes you can reach into the bucket but,,,,, make sure the gloves dont have holes, test them in water first, also do not breath  the fumes, and dont keep checking them, just let them soak over nite,  wear a mask! do not do this inside! i dont use acid any more got high one too many times lol. be very carefull! you might even consider eye protection, acid can be very dangerous,  let it do its job, water kills acid... ahh i just use bar keepers friend mike
