Went to the Antique Baltimore Bottle Club Christmas meeting and won the last game of bottle bingo! I had a wide selection of one bottle left to choose from, so that's the one I went with.  In the bag was a bottle which I believe is called a Chestnut.  Not sure what it held but my guess is whiskey.  It has some nice whittling and is either a puce or amber color. I can't decide. I don't think I will be selling this nice piece of glass, but I was just wondering what it would be worth.  Also any other info would be very appreciated. Thanks so much. Enjoy!

I think it is a bocksbeutal. Use them in Germany ( and a few other European country) for certain types of wine. I don't know if they were also made and used here in the US

Spot on Melinda - bottles of this type are German and late 19th century.  Very pretty!

Thanks for the correction guys. I would have never thought that wine would have come in that. Do you know what these things sell for now a days?

They seem to be pretty common. Not sure of the price on them. I have always liked them. Nice color.

Hey Melinda,

Thanks, you taught me something today. Now let me hear you pronounce that, please.

Great picture, Joey.

Hey Ham nice bottle and color.I picked one up in N.C. a few weeks back.It seems to have been made a little diffrent from yours.I love that Red color in them. Ive seen a few Whiskeys made like these but they all seem to have a applied seal and most are from the same spirt maker.Any way nice bottle were ever they come from.
