IDENTIFY THIS BOTTLE MARK - 1/23/2003 3:16:26 PM

HELLO EVERYONE,
IN THE LAST YEAR I HAVE UNCOVERED SEVERAL SIGHTS.BOTTLES FROM THE EARLY 1800' S TO EARLY 1900' S.SOME OF THESE BOTTLES MIXED WITH OTHER FINDS,HAVE THIS CIRCLE WITH THE DIAMOND ON THE BOTTOM.
A LOT OF THE OLDER ONES HAVE NO NAMES ONLY THE DIOMAND AND CIRCLE MARK,AND THE NEWER ONES ,SOME HAVE DURAGLAS EMBOSSED AROUND THE BOTTOM. SOME BOTTLES EVEN HAVE DATES FROM 1863 TO 1910. THERE ARE 17 DIFFERENT BOTTLES WITH THIS SET, FROM 4" TO 12" ALL OF THEM WERE FOUND ON THE CENTRAL GULF COAST OF FLORIDA.

ANY INFORMATION ON THIS SYMBOL WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
JAMES

Hi James - Thanks for posting this " What is it?" . The bottles I have seen with Duraglas on the bottom edge have all been straight-sided sodas and all of the ABM (automatic bottle machine - post 1900), crown-top variety. Your picture is definitely showing a mass-produced bottle.

I can' t help identify the manufacturer. I know there are books out there of bottlemakers' marks. Hopefully one of our other members has one of these books and can identify the mfr for us ...

Keep those stumpers coming!

Quite sure that is a common trade mark design for the Owens Illinois Glass Company.Have many bottles with same mark. The numbers around it are a manufacter date code but I' m not sure how to interpret. Perhaps Owens company may have dating info.

Thanks for all the info.
The Bottle in the picture is definetly ABM. It had the clearest mark for the photo.
It was The Mark I needed.

In 1940, Owens-Illinois Glass introduced a new product called " Duraglas."

I guess the bottles without Duraglas embossing. Predates 1940.
