Hey apd75, This bottle is called a round bottom here in the states. It is also called a Maughm after the person who invented that style. It contained soda, areated water, and the like. It is made like that so that it will lay on its side thus keeping the cork moist in shipment from overseas. If the cork dried out, it would shrink, and the contents would lose its pressure. They are considered a common bottle but still a nice one to display in my opinion. Hope this helps. Happy Diggin, Kelley
