found this along an old trail heading back to a dump.does anybody know what it might be i thuoght it was some sort of indian tool??

Could be a small Celt. It looks to have some polish on the one end.

thank you for responding, i don't much about stone tools, or even what you meen by a celt. if you could give me some info or tell me were to look, i.e. book or internet, that would be awesome. idon't collect this sort of thing but i love to research the stuff i find or at least try to.

It could even be a adz. Do a search for stone Celt and stone Adz.

It could be a celt, but in the area that I live in a celt is a lot more rounded, it seems too flat, and an adz would be more flat on one side than the other, my guess would be that it is an ax.

Or maybe it's just a rock. No, I'm just kidding you. It does kind of look like an indian artifact. I'd say probably an adz or celt. Doesn't really look like an axe to me. It's too thin, small.

Looks like a sharpening stone to me,you know for sharpening the scythe,sickle,pocket knife etc I find them all the time in old dumps....Just a thought. Taz

Its hard to tell with that stuff unless you can handle it.
If its a celt it will be made of very hard tight grain stone. If its a sharpening stone it will be rougher coarse grained stone.
