Diggerjeff - I get a funny feeling about this beer. Are you sure the label is the real deal? Looks like it could be a repro? The Indian Motorcycle Company did start in Springfield, Mass., in 1900, but the name was Motorcycle with an " r" ; also I haven' t seen any version of their Indian head logo looking anything like this one on the label. If it was someone in town trying to capitalize on the popularity of the town' s motorcycle company, they were sure taking a chance of getting sued! In any case the label has the look to me of being from the 1940s or 50s. Just my opinion; as I' ve said before on this site, beer bottles are not my expertise!

I FOUND THE INDIAN LOGO ON THE ABOVE LINK
AND THE FREQUENT REFERENCE TO THE WORD MOTOCYCLE . THE WORD MOTOCYCLE MUST HAVE BEEN THERE GIMICK. I FIND IT ON A LOT OF WEB PAGES AND CANT BELIEVE IT IS A MISSPELLING.

In 1900 the Hendee Manufacturing Company in Springfield, Massachusetts was formed to manufacture a " motor-driven bicycle for the everyday use of the general public" .
With the first creation unveiled in 1901 came the trade name for their motorcycles, Indian, which signified " a wholly American product in the pioneering tradition" . By 1913 Indian owned 42% of the U.S domestic market, total production 31,950 motorcycles, an all-time record for the company.
In 1923 the company changed its name to the Indian Motocycle Company, the " r" is dropped from " motorcycle" to avoid possible legal action arising from patent suits.
Just around this time the Ford Model T was becoming affordable to the public.
In 1925 marketing overseas comes to a halt when the British Government imposes a 33% import tax against all foreign motorcycles

I have one of these and my husbands cousin helped apply the labels. They put these labels on the bottles for an Indian Motorcycle run. ( Big Party, held annually in N. Calif.) The labels are not affiliated with the actual motorcycle company. Kim
