That's easy it's at the end of my street. The city of Cape May has been putting it's trash along the edges of the salt water marshes for over a century [stopped 30 years ago though] so I have access to trash from 1850s to 1970s. There are buildings over some of it now but still acers and acers left. I've known about it since I was a kid shooting too many of those bottles with my B-B gun. Dump digging is great too because of the other stuff you get besides bottles. This is all within 500yards of my house. Great huh!!

Hey it's addicted here. I agree that you not only find bottles but a variety of things in an old dump. I am a virgin digger myself, but thanks to my husband who has dug this same dump for 30 years. I'm coming around. We have moved back to his home town and we walk 1/4 of a mile out our front door to the site. Can't get better than that. But it becomes a problem because i don't get anything else done. According to my husband we have alot more digging to do. He said we probably won't ever dig it all up. It's split in two by a river. He use to dig with his dad when he was younger at this same spot. There use to be an indian reservation there as well where he dug arrowheads. They built the town here as well so they could put out there fires easier. I'm sure there is tons of goodies just waiting for us.

Sorry it took so long to get back to this but yes there is ash in fact that is how I dig I go below the ash then rake my way back up through it. That way my shovel dos'nt chip or crack the bottles. But when you find the ash keep going down there may be another layer. Good luck. Tom, Olddump
