Went to a place in the woods today, that I had found using an 1874 map.

And I rolled snake eyes. Last year I found a nice local aqua med, dated 1881, and a lot of frags, but nothing today.

Went about 3' into the cistern, removing overhanging rocks, etc, uuntil water started seeping up. Then clawed/shoveled the banks of where the cellar collapsed...just fragments. A weird Iodine smell came out of the spaces under rocks in the collapsed cellar area, as I dug. But no intact glass.

And I probed. And probed. And probed. I'm tired. Going to sleep well tonight LOL.

I cannot locate the privy...I'm looking from directly behind where the back door used to be, fanning out about 40 feet. Nothing yet...any tips on Midwest farmsteads? (this one was abandoned between 1874 and 1881, per map drawings.
I may just start getting in town permission again. At least the property lines help somewhat, and I have some Sanborns.

Anyway, it was a good excuse to get out in the woods.
