I was out looking for a jar to add to my crude jar collection when I came across this lid. I have collected for many years and have not found one previously. I am guessing that it is scarce but would like to know how scarce. There is no lettering on the liner.
George

George:

I agree totally, that is a scarce to downright rare lid. Been collecting and paying particular attention to lids & closures for a long time and I have never seen one. I suggest you contact Greg Spurgeon and / or Doug Leyborne about it.

referred to as a "raised letter" boyd lid, they are fairly scarce, I sold one on ebay last year a little rougher than yours for $30, Hoosierjar sold a mint one for around $65 last year, I have seen them sell usually in the $25-40 range, a good scarce lid....Bill

Does anyone have a really crude Boyd's Mason that they would be willing to sell or trade?

I was happy to see this lid. I have found some jars and several porcelain lids that I need to find a good home. One lid says what yours does only it is not raised it is stamped - I am not certain that is the right term - the letters are cut into the metal. It isn't easy to see and I don't know what I should do to, if anything, to clean it up. Any advice would be appreciated.

There is one difference. The design in between the words that go up and the words that go down on mine is simply a <> diamond shape . (all the corners are connected on the diamond, and they point in the direction you read)

I will try to post photos, it seems to fit on a couple of the jars, but I think this one could be a correct match. If not, again any advice would be welcome. Darnit! It looks like my photos are too big. I will have to take different pics or figure out how to change the size. I did not realize 200KB would make such a clear view.

If you are still looking for a crude Boyd's Mason I would like you to look at mine.

Thanks to the gentleman who posted the easy way to resize photos! Here is the lid and the jar I put it on. ........It said it uploaded successfully, but I don't see photos in preview. I may have to try again.

I looked at many pictures and read the comments. I know it isn't easy getting good photos, but I understood a white background was a good thing. If someone has anymore tips I am happy to learn.

I want to thank all of the collectors that are active with the internet. I am spending hours researching the overwhelming number of various items my father amassed as a 'junk dealer' 40+ years ago. I'm sure my story is just like others, have to sell it all to keep mom in assisted living.
But when I find a site like this one - it makes researching much easier! The photos and info have been great. Thank you!
If someone would like to see the other jars, I have 2 photos with 3 each. I do not want to appear rude, perhaps I should start a new thread!
Thanks again!

JoAnn. You are doing great with your posts. For your own benefit I suggest you start your own thread with your questions about your jars. For now this jar you have shown appears to be a better than average color and it is suggested you research some more and get good in person view for color identification as that can mean a LOT of money difference. Color is KING.

I am no expert but it looks like light cornflower or sky blue. Go to this site... http://www.hoosierjar.com/index.html , there is a color guide in one of the links..you can tell best with the jar beside you. You can email Greg and ask him for an honest color interpretation. Sky blue half gallon or qt books at $100-300 ,half gallon or qt cornflower blue books at $500-1000.
