Didn't buy thiks one, but thought it was an interesting top. Has a groove under the blob. Inside you can easily see the top of the neck - almost looks like a milk bottle cap seat. Very pronounced.

It looks like an Aluminum cork seal it was another closure similar to a Baltimore loop seal. But has a smaller grove closer to the top of the lip.

Chris is right!

"Aluminum Seal Closure, circ: 1895-1903, Occurs on 22 bottles,
Invented by: Robert Allison Hall,
American Patent: June 18, 1895, Number: 541,203,
This stopper was mainly used in the metro Baltimore area and was a competitor to William Painter's Bottle Seal closure. However, unlike the Bottle Seal there were two sizes as seen on some of quart sized bottles. The groove on the inside of the lip is very close to the top and is not as angular as the Bottle Seal. Painter successfully sued Hall in 1903 and won."

I have seen ones like you show, however this one is like this:

The top of the neck - inside the blob - is very squared off. It is not grooved like the aluma seal. I believe I have a couple Balto steamers around here that look like this aluma seal, and this one is not like them.

Also, I assume the groove under the blob would be for the bail tie, however I don't remember seeing one quite as pronounced.

Thanks,
Dave
