RE: Iron Pontiled Barrel Bitters? - 7/31/2011 12:41:30 PM    RED Matthews Posts: 2394 Joined: 8/2/2008 Status: offline Well swiz, I think it must have been hung in water with a rope through the top.  I can also visualize some type of chemical being in the fiber contents.  I have never seen any thing like that but I can see some use for that type of device being used in a baby fish type of hatchery for feeding purposes.  I guess the method of reducing rust might help you find a patent number or some information.  Neat item - conversation piece, anyway. After I soak it in Muriatic I'll be able to read it. The fibers are like fiberglass. After cleaning it my hand was really itchy and in one spot it felt like a micro sliver in my fingertip. Nothing painful. Just annoying. I thought maybe a military smoke bomb. Soak it in whatever and light it up for a smoke signal or something. Either that or some type of filter.
