I got this at a flae market for a buck but would like to know if this is a repro or not. It says Mason's ( small ) 7 patent clear jar. The lip is smooth and the base has a circle. Thanks for any information you can give.

Hi bottleboy33,  The circle on the base is from a valve.  This valve is in the center of the baffle cavity.  The valve is the down position when id is used to close the top of the parison mold before the settle blow air pressure is sent through the valve to force the gob of glass down into the settle point where the bottle neckring cavity is filled. At this point it often causes a chilled ring around the glass called "the settle-blow ring". The plunger then comes up as a displacement press and the glass that the plunger pushes up, it lifts the valve to a closed position flush in the baffle cavity.  This completes the cycle.  The baffle valve arm lifts it away the blank mold opens and the neck-ring arm lifts and inverts the formed parison up and over into the mold.  After the mold closes around the parison, there is on the more modern formed bottles, a trasfer ring that the mold closes under to hold the parison hanging in the mold.  The a blowhead arm sets the blowhead over the finish and delivers final blow air to blow the jar out to mold and bottom plate surface contacts.  Ihe ring match of the baffle and baffle valve put the circle on the bottom of the jar.   If you want an illustration of this I might be able to look up a drawing og the cycle.
No doubt TMI but that is just my way of answering the questionh.  REd Matthews

Red was telling you the bottle is an original machine made 1910 to 1930 bottle not the date you see on the jar.

hmmm, I always assumed that the patent date was the day the exact mold or whatever was patented, meaning every one was the same. wrong on that assumption
