Okay. I know this is probably a typical newbie question.
I know nothing about bottles. But I have been metal detectign at an old base on Galveston island and have found some bottleshalf or fully buried in the water. Are these anything or just junk.
And how would one identify a bottle.

44 mm across the botteom
27 mm across the top
Seems through the lip( I think that is the correct term
The lip? has ridges.
The bottom has the following - 63 (diamond shape) 52

Does this description help?

Thankyou for any help with this.

Doug

The bottle you found isn't that old.
Probably 1950-1960's.
When the line runs from the bottom to the top of the bottle, it usually denotes that the bottle was made by an automatic bottle machine.
Keep looking, though, you'll never know what you'll find.

I've spotted about a dozen of these in the water close to the shore. I will take a little closer look at them.

Some are shorter, but more squared.

Is there a list or page with basic bottle indentification basics?

Doug

One more question.

Would the diamond mark on the bottom make it
"Diamond Glass Co" and would the 2 numbers be a date?

Am I close?

Thankyou for all your help.

Doug

Yes, I would say that the diamond mark is the Diamond Glass co.
One of the numbers on the bottom may be the year of manufactuer.

Hi Doug!

Yes, I would say Diamond bottling company, which is after 1924. I think one of the numbers would be the plant location, that is how Owens glass company does it.

I have found some good info on bottle marks at these spots on the net. Hope this helps.
