Well here's something that doesn't happen everyday- you are digging a dump that is known for having only 1920+ stuff, and right next to a common 1930's Milk of Magnesia is a rare gem. This here is a whiskey that is embossed James Buchanan & Co. Ltd / Distillers / By Appointment / To His Majesty The King. At first I thought that it was some kind of repro, but upon further inspection, I noticed that the top is not by machine, and the glass is yellow green with lots of bubbles. There also is a monogram which shows a lion and a unicorn surrounding a cross in circle. The base is embossed 106. I've found plenty of whiskey bottles in this area, most prohibition, but this must have been kept around the house for some time. I have no clue on the price, but I am very interested in finding out. Any info is appreciated! -Brian

Brian you said any info, how about my memory. Think you should look North.
In B.C. Canada noticed they were tearing up a park that I knew was a dump as my grandfather used to get scaps of wood from it in the 1940's. Don't know how old dump was, I stoped and asked one of the workers if I could dig around he said sure and showed me bottle(yours). But when I got near the dump it was too toxic. You could smell the cancer. So Canada, or other UK associated country.

Hey Brian have you found anything yet, beautiful bottle. And this don't know how close it will be, started search of more books and found this, but not descriptive.
Buchanan James & Co. LTD Distillers Olive Green 7 1/2" $5.00 to $10.00.
Hugh Cleveland undated values 1993, but I have never trusted his values.
Doesn't mention the embosing, with something like yours you would think he would unless it is common. Is size and color right

The bottle is 7 1/4"- I'm not sure if the listing you gave me was the same one, as there is no mention of the "By Appointment/ To His Majesty The King." I also got a listing in a 1983 book that listed it as $25.00, but I would assume that that price has changed quite a bit over 20 years. Nevertheless, it's a good find for post 1900 dumps.. Too bad I wasn't around in the late 60's- the old Tacoma dump was in the tideflats, and I know a couple that pulled out an estimated 5000 bottles before the big bottle clubs heard about the place. After the word spread, there were hundreds of people digging the site, and the city shut down the operation after one digger dug beneath a railroad track, causing the train to derail.

Yeh Brian I would say such a good bottle would be worth more than what we found, will keep my eyes and ears out. Heard about that dump in Tacoma but not the train. Howabout causing an old garage to start to buckle when somebody I know was digging to close to one corner. And would you beleive people inside of garage having a dance, Boy that is nerve for those two running down the alley.
