I just bought this bottle today.I was pretty happy about finding an american pottery bottle within my budget.I got home and looked up the name John Ryan and found that there are some pretty nice Ryan bottles out there, and some of them can get pretty expensive too.I was just wondering how this bottle ranked with the more scarce Ryan bottles. Is this a rare bottle or ? It measures about 6 1/2 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches wide.Any help would be appreciated.

never seen one like yours but John Ryan sodas are very collectible. Yours would be a root beer I would guess. Thats one of the more interesting crocks i've seen in a while.

Thanks for your reply.I never would have guessed this bottle would have contained  root beer.I thought all stoneware bottles held ginger beer.

Hey Blaine, I'm no expert on them but I've seen alot of John Ryans and I have never seen or even heard of a John Ryan stoner.

Great find. I'd do alot of research.

I have never seen or heard of a Ryan stoner either !
I'd say that you have a rare one there ! And it would draw much interest if you sold it . Especially with local collectors. I will see if I can find out some info on your bottle from a friend of mine that is a Ryan collector . Nice find !

I agree with the other guys on this one. I've never seen a John Ryan stoner before. I've seen a lot of the cobalt squats though and if I remember right they bring at least $75 or more depending on the variant.

Hi Blaine !
I take it from Russ's email reply your stoner is very rare !!! He deals with a lot of Ryans and Southern beer & Sodas and he had this to say about your bottle .

Brian,

Nice to hear from you! Your Ryan crock is a nice one.
It looks like the condition is very good. If so, it
should bring around $1000.00. If it is in perfect
condition it could do a little better depending on who
needs one right now.

Thanks
Russ

Hope this info helps you !  Brian

Well ...you could ebay it ! But , it might do better in one of the Auction Houses. I know quite a few collectors that won't buy on ebay .... because of bad experiences with sellers in the past.
Which ever way you decide to sell it ..... good luck and nice find !

It would be on the front row with my #1 bottles. You may never get another.

ebay is fine for selling ... as long as the seller has good feedback, you can post good photos, and you give a good guarantee.
If you cant do all of those then probably better to go through a professional auction house. Just my opinion.
