So, what do I do? It's mint from what I see, and sez PAT 85 on the bottom. The bottom has a round piece of wood with a large hole in it. It looks like it has lettering from trying to shine a light through the basket. I'll post 2 pics. Thanks.

what is the height of the bottle?  It looks like a soda or beer.  It is not often you see one wrapped in wicker.  Because of that I would leave it on as it could be very rare like this, although it is likely embossed.  Thing is if it is a very common bottle under there you might ruin any value by taking of the wicker.  If it is rare, you might increase the value!  Hard to say...  I'd try to figure out if it is embossed or not, and then what it says...

There is a tool called a "see snake" It's the size of a hair dryer and has a probe about a foot or two long with a light and camera that allows you to see in tight areas or inside walls, etc.  It would fit right into the opening of that bottle and allow you to see if there is any ebossing, I'm not sure how hard it is to see embossing from the backside of the glass, never noticed.  If you know anyone in the maintenance field they may have one.  Grainger sells them.  I don't know where your at but if you were in the Sacramento area I'd let you bring it here and use mine.

I dont know, if it was just another plain old soda I'd normally toss it back in the hole, but I would keep it with the wicker on it if I found it in a barn or something...  it at least might make it interesting...  what gets me is the people who keep an ugly sick bottle rather then have it cleaned!  my god you just never know with some people...

My girl friend would covet it, and I wouldn't be able to rip off the wicker if it was an only known New London bottler!

it's 7 1/4" and definitely embossed, but I'd never be able to make it out.  Anyone out there notice many bottles with PAT 85 on the bottom? Heck, I'm flippin a coin.

by todays standard I would take it off. However 10 years from noy it could be the worst thing you did. If you like it as it is leave it if you are a bottle collector and like glass not wicker take it off. To me it is a 50/50 but if were mine it would be gone!

I've never really seen that having a bottle wrapped in wicker has increased the value of a bottle.

If it is a common bottle, then it is a common bottle.

I'd definitely leave it alone. That kind of bottle is never found with wicker, and as it is it's like a piece of art. Someone spent a lot of time weaving that and it's in great shape for being 100 years old.

I'd rip that right off without hesitation. It's not particularly nice wickerwork. If you regret doing that, I can bring it with me to Romania (or any bottle) and have it wickered REAL nice and very cheaply!

It would if it was a recycle bottle...  You could sell that for 10 bucks where as if it is just a plain un embossed squat yo might as well toss it...

To me at least it would be worth more like that then a plain unembossed one.  I have a box of those!  I rather like it, and would keep it myself.  It would look nice with the Demijohn display...

The wicker on that one is actually in better condition than many of the ones I have found. I have probably taken the wicker off at least 50 bottles so far. I only ever buy them anymore if they are an odd color or really super crude. There are people who collect them with the wicker on and the smaller ones are a bit harder to find. I have sold a couple of the smaller wickered one and never had trouble getting rid of them.

I'm a ripper....
feels good and it's always a surprise as to what's underneath.
I remember a long time ago reading somewhere that there are hidden treasures in wicker.. I now look for them and rip away....

I've got some plain aqua and amber demis laying around gathering dust if anyone wants to stop by and haul them away.
