Pat had suggested that I take you folks on another trip.  Well, if you're interested hop in and let's ride over to Big Creek.  We'll pitch a few crickets and check that sandy bottom creek for bottles.  You never know what you might find when you go on an adventure.  It's been raining all morning and we are probably gonna get wet, but since we will be wade fishing it doesn't matter too much.  Never been wade fishing? Well let's grab the cricket cage and go.

Where we're going has a lot of snakes and wild hogs, so I'm going to strap on the 22 pistol.  It's better to be prepared.

You can tell from the pic that it's foggy and raining.

The recent rains have stained the water a little, but not enough to hurt the fishing.

This creek has a lot of sloughs and backouts which makes following the creekbank difficult.  Here I have to cross a slough.

On the side of the bank there's an animal hole.  No telling what's in there.

Well, it doesn't take long to get a hit.  Hope that this is one of those medium sized red breast bream (red eared pumpkinseed bream).  A lot of folks call them red bellies.

Well, that's what it is.  Here's a closeup.  The're beautifully colored fish and are some mighty fine eating also.  These creek reds are smaller than the ones in the river, but to me they taste better.

Next is a bluegill.  This pic is a little blurry.

Most folks here call these Jacks .  I think that the proper name is Chain Pickerel.  A lot of people don't like these because of the forked bones, but my Brother-in-Law showed me a way to gash them so that those bones cook out.

These fish have some sharp pointed  teeth, so you don't want to go sticking your fingers in his mouth to get a hook out.  Hope that you can see them in the pic.

This creek has a sandy bottom.  You can see the sand on the left side of the pic.

Found some bottles floating, but they all were new.  No keepers, so back to fishing.

Well, I think that I got a good mess of fish, so I'm heading back to the house. Here they are in my folding baket that I keep them in while fishing.  They stay alive longer using this type of basket.

I've got to get these cleaned and ready for the cooking oil.  These are just the right size for frying whole.

After the cleaning is done, the're ready to be salt & peppered and mealed.  Bowl of cleaned fish ready for the fish fry.

I like to coat the salted fish with plenty of stone ground corn meal.

I like to use a heavy cast iron, well seasoned pot to deep fry these fish to a golden brown.

Fish just seem to be better when the're cooked outside, so we'll set up beside the shop.
