Well, I guess a lot of folks enjoyed the little ride home last week.  So I thought we might ride those red clay roads to granny's old home place and see what we can find.  Most of you remember that this is where the bottle bug bit me  many years ago.  OK Harley , Load Up.  You don't have to tell him twice.  He can't even wait till you let the tailgait down he's so excited.

Well, Harley's all ready to go.  He can't wait to get going, so we'd better hurry up.

We're going the back way.  You can tell from this marker that this is an old road that we will be traveling.  So hold on tight.  I'll let you read the sign.

So were traveling on the old pioneer trail that went west from Savannah. This is something you don't see too often.  Pecan trees that form a canopy over the road.  And that's Pea-can not Pa-kahn.  Anyway that's the way we say it down here.

Next we come upon the Green's Old Mill pond spillway .  This used to be a great place to fish.  It had a blackwater cypress pond and lots of fish.  But the flood back in 1990 blew out the road and they never could fix it back where it would hold water.  Such a loss of a great fishing spot.  Spent many a summer day catching fish out of this spillway.  The road use to cross the spillway, but after the flood they moved it over.

Well we made it here.  The first thing that we see is the old well.  Hand dug, no casing , just straight down through solid clay.

Might be some great stuff in the bottom of this thing.  You go on down and check it out Rick.  I'll lower you down with a rope, just let me know when you hit bottom.

This was originaly a one room log cabin built sometime in the 1800's that has been added on.  Granny raised 13 children here on a 122 acre farm.  Everything was usually made by hand.  There are round peg holes in the inside corners where the beds were just boards fit into the corners. Later on boards were added over the cracks in the logs.

Here, You can see the logs on this corner.  Also note the type foundation that the cabin sits on.  These are fat-lighter pillars.

The house was built in two parts.  The kitchen was a separate building connected by a breezeway.  They would sleep on the covered breezeway during those hot summer nights. Most of this is falling in. I wish they would keep this place up better.

Well, hope you enjoyed the trip over to granny's house.  I gotta run for now.  But before I go, I did find this dusty box in the kitchen part of the house.  Hmmm wonder what could be in here.  Does anybody want to know? If so stay tuned. and i'll open it when I get back home.
