Hello,

Can anyone identify this decanter/bottle??????????

It seems to have been made in 1955, according to the bottom of the bottle.

It is trimmed at the top with gold and has a blown glass top with a cork.

It measurtes 12 ½” TALL AND 3 ½”.

Thanks,
Rromage

It's real nice but as you say not old. The bad part is that normally a decanter with the hollow top with attached cork is a sign of not being a costly decanter. Sometimes these were sold right out of liquor stores with the product inside.

If 1955...it would have Federal Law Forbids Sale Or Reuse,etc...does it?
Looks like circa 1970s' to me...the plastic under the cork is a dead give-away.

Whiskeyman,

Thanks for the responce.

It does say "Federal Law Forbids Sale Or Reuse of this Bottle" at the bottom.

It does have a plastic washer just atthe bottom of the cork.

Can you tell me anything about this bottle? Was it whiskey or wine...etc.?

Do you have any reference books that might give any clue?

Thanks,
rromage

RROMAGE...back in the early 1960's and into the 70's many distilleries had made a variety of special decanters designed to sell more whiskey and appeal to collectors. Jim Beam, Ezra Brooks, Garnier, & Lionstone were but a few of many such companies. There is a book available on these decanters & bottles and available on Ebay by searching "Figural Bottles"...
Your decanter is one of those types, but I don't know the "Brand." Old Forrester, Old Fitzgerald, do come to mind. I don't think it's a Jim Beam or Ezra Brooks...could be an early Beam though.
There is a Jim Beam website...search Google...the site also shows many other brands issued during that period. Good luck...

Which came first: the decanter or the lava lamp...?

Save your money...people provide info here for free... if there is info to provide.
It probably isnt worth much, does it have some sentimental value?

What is so special about the bottle to you that it is worth $50 just for info. I dont think the bottle itself would hold that much in value

Gentlemen,

Thanks for responding.

It has no real monetary value, only sentimental.

It is however, a point of irritation that I cannot identify it! Seems like it would be easy. I have spent many, many man hours trying to do so with no results and I'm ready to turn it over to the experts, hence the reward.

Thanks again guys!

it is very possable that your questions might never get answered. take a real good look at the bottom and along the rim of the base. sometimes you will find a faint signature of the glass artest that ground the glass. if you have a mark or signature it would make for a better starting point. if either of your pieces is signed it would either be from a grind wheel or a acid etch. find a decanter collectors web forum and post your pic there, this is a little out of the relm of most collectors in this forum.
