Looks like a great site to sift. Try to find and dig the privy too. Would also like to see a pic of the marbles. Judging from the site I'll bet that they're old ones.

Definitely great to find your marbles....especially a variety like that.  Lots of cool little bottles too, one looks to have held gold paint or ink.  The GBS arrows are common but stood for the Gottlieb Bauernschmidt Straus Brewing Company and a long lasting company that has deep roots and and tons of bottle varients.  So many that a bottle related to this company is probably the most found Baltimore beer (at least for dump and surface diggers), can't say for privys ( Hey Chris.....?)  Is the jar to the left glass?  Nice finds!

Those are great marbles. The best ones are the painted chinas which are the ones with the concentric lines painted on them. Some can be worth $100 or more depending on the size and design on them. The larger ones in excess of 1" in diameter are the better ones. I have been finding them in 1860s era privies. Great finds. You need to really check out that site closely and dig and sift as well as metal detect.

The rural privies, I'm told don't have as much in them as the city ones but I don't know 1st hand as I have never dug a rural one. That site looks like one that will produce for many years. I would systematically start digging and sifting and if done properly you wouldn't need a metal detector. Good luck.

That's a great site to dig!  I also love finding the marbles too. I have been giving them to my youngest daughter who realy likes them.   I consider them good luck, along with buttons.

Thanks to all for being so helpful since my joining. Would like to let you know I have stopped losing my marbles(chuckin' em') and am gathering quite a collection. If I can keep the boy from playing with them, even better. Also, I'm going to post a pic of a spot and hope for lots of feedback. Very cool stuff. Love the marbles.

Thanks again, Chris
