Early last year I was walking to stream near the mill where I work that used to be a textile mill from1865 to 1949. Along side part of the bank there was alot of iron slag and melted glass, while scraping around I found a bunch of glass buttons melted together. Last week I found some more, this time the buttons where a little bigger and further down from where I found the first peace ( the whiter one is the first I found) I learned in a local history book that in 1874, a sewing mill about a half mile down the road had a huge fire and a few people died the area I found them used to be a swamp until the late 1890's so maybe they carted the waste from that fire to the swamp area to dump it? Melted buttons: http://s1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff520/vtdigger/?action=view¤t=004-3.jpg other side: http://s1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff520/vtdigger/?action=view¤t=001-6.jpg Any ideas on how these buttons got melted together am I right to think there form a textile factory fire and how old do you think they are?
