Just got back from another trip to Downeast Maine and found some more great stuff while diving.

I found my first Codd bottle!

Bottle is in fantastic shape.  The bottler was Simeon Jones of St. John, New Brunswick.  The opposite side of the bottle says "The Niagara Bottle"  with more info as to manufacture.

Also found a couple of nice case gins, one small and one standard size; a chamber pot; a nice triangular cobalt poison; a green blob soda from Philadelphia, an igloo ink plus other inks, the face of a ship's compass (make that a temperature gauge) and other stuff that I'll post photos of later.

I'm headed back in a couple of weeks to try my luck some more.

Here is the compass face (about 6" across or so) -

The last patent date on the plate is 1893.

That looks like it may be a temperature gauge, maybe for steam?  A compass needs to go to 360 deg.

I hadn't noticed that.  Good point!  Given that it was found on the site of the old steamship pier a temperature gauge would make some sense.

I did some further research and the Portland Company did manufacture steam engines for both the rail and shipping industries.

Had not found a really nice open pontiled bottle for some time but came across this one a week or so ago.  No idea what it held but it is pretty.  It is about 6' high and 3.5" at its widest.

My only other nice open pontil is my prized jaundice bitters.

Nice finds...that pontil bottle was probably a food of some sort.

Those are horseradish typically although could have been used for other foods.

The site I dive is the old International Steamship Pier which advertised that they linked to Portland, Boston, New York and Philadelphia.  Until this year I had not found a Philly bottle.  But now the collection is complete!

Still needs a tumble but I like the color.

This style of bottle generally held spice, some have been found with intact labels.

Several different brands of these hailed from San Francisco:
Charles Bernard, D. Ghirardelli & Co., W.P.(Wellman Peck), H.C. Hudson & Co. and
G. Venard...this type of bottle was also referred to as a "mustard" or "Honeywell" after the East Coast company that had this type of bottle embossed with their name.

Found this chamber pot buried deep in the mud at the old steamship pier.  Somewhat surprised that something this large survived for over a hundred years.
