More bottle pictures... Can anyone help identify them? - 6/14/2006 12:02:44 AM    03Malibu   Posts: 19 Joined: 5/29/2006 From: Maine Status: offline Hi,  Here are some more pictures of some bottles I've uncovered, and I've numbered the bottles and described each one...some of them, I need help figuring out what they are. 1: Could someone explain what this is?? it stands about 7 inches tall 2: Stands about 3 1/2 inches tall, and says "Horlick's Malted Milk" 3: This bottle I find kinda odd, it says "T (& or TT) K Flavoring Extracts" the writing is in a font kind of like Chinese...I don't know what to make of it...maybe someone can help? 4: this bottle is about 3 1/2 inches tall and says "Chesebrough Vaseline Manufact'g Co. 5: Is an ink bottle, (I assume) and on the bottom says Carter's Made in USA 6: and this is only about an inch or so tall, it was a little vial that I found that actually still had white powder in it...I didn't know what to do, so I washed it out (I'm new to digging and collecting, so I didn't know what to do) The second pic is of a bottle that I found, it says H.W. Huguley Co. 134 Canal St. Boston...I assume that its an alcohol bottle, but I was wondering if anyone had any info on the company.. and last but not least, the final pic, which is broken, but I wanted to know if anyone could explain what it is, its only about 4-5 inches tall, and it has WALES printed on the bottom...could someone help?? thanks. Like I said, I'm new to this, so any help would be much appreciated... Also, I'm heading back up to where I found all of these bottles(and the others in previous posts) and I'll have roughly 3 days or so to dig...I'm actually gonna dig, these bottles were just on the surface, so I'll see what I find when I dig into the soil...being new to this, it just blows my mind to see what I can actually find, and also to see what is just lying around in the brush and shrubs that I have to climb through to get at all this stuff...So, I'll be posting this weekend for sure, hopefully I can find some neat stuff.......And thanks again for everyone's help on helping me identify different items. I dug quite a few of those in a late 18 to early 1900s dump. They are at least a sign that you are in a pretty good spot. It seems like I read or was told once that they contained cherries. I stand to be corrected on that. I do remember finding at least two different styles, one with lines running vertically, one without, and at least 2 different sizes the small which is what you have there and a larger size. It also seems like I dug as many of these as I did ketchup bottles and always in close proximity which left me convinced they also held some kind of condiment though I could be wrong about the cherries. I don't know much about the others though a check on their moldlines will usually give a clue to their age. The last time I heard if the mold line goes all the way to the inside of the lip it is probably from well after 1900. If it stops just below the lip it probably was made right at 1900 give or take. Hope this was some help. Good luck digging. Keep those great posts and pictures coming. Sorry I don't know more about the others. Googling will work sometimes as well as bottle books, but neither is the wealth of information on bottles that this forum is. I guarantee if someone on this forum is from your area and sees the bottles they will know more about them. I have not dug any of the Extracts bottle yet, but the vaseline (Cheesborough), Harlick (from london-milk), and carters ink, and glass container are quite common finds, and are not worth selling on ebay. However, wherever, you found them might have more desirable bottles such as cokes, pepsis, druggists, milks, etc...Try to dig some more and post your finds. Also, a handy guide to dating and pricing many dug bottles is Hugh Cleveland's bottle book (great value). Best of luck. (in reply to 03Malibu) Post #: 6
