I haven't got a chance to do alot of digging lately but managed to crawl under a few more houses recently. One produced a number of food, beer, and other cans.I was amazed to find some of the paper labels from the 20's-40's intact and able to be cleaned up on the food cans.I found a few nice waxsealer jars and 58's too along with a couple SS cokes. The cans were probably my favorites though,I still need to clean these up better and have another box to clean.

Heya Doug - What great stuff! When I'm done posting this of course I'll be going to Ebay to see what that stuff is worth :) Amazing they were in such good shape and not crushed either. I've spent my last 2 "digs" underwater snorkling in a river down the street. My friend is pullin up some good stuff, I spend most of my time gagging on the snorkle thing, and flopping around like I'm drowning. Still can't get the hang of it.
Good luck finding more cool stuff

Nice Finds Doug,
Love the graphics on those food cans!.....are my eyes playing tricks on me or is there really a face in the mountains of that Steele and Meredith Elk Lick Can?

Doug

I love the cans (well, the labels, actually).  They're true works of art.  Congratulations!

      Thanks for the comments everyone.

Doug, I see what you mean about the face.It is just an illusion in that photo, just a plain ole mountain.

Bram,I am not sure what they are worth in this condition but I like them. Some of the labels were covered in black dirt but wiped clean. There were hundreds of cans and I only picked the ones that looked good.I am heading back today to see if I missed any and to get some more scrapes on my belly and arms.
Good luck with the snorkeling, sounds like a good time. There has got to be some incredible glass in the rivers up that way.

Really cool stuff; ...the cans are really neat. You would never find cans in that condition here in Fla. The humidity/heat/salt/flooding just destroys metal quickly. I would guess the SS cokes are the most valuable, ..but who knows, a can collector might need one that you found real bad, ...but regardless great finds for under a house!

Went back to knocking my head on ductwork again today and found a few nice things again including dozens of cans including a couple real nice ones. These were found under a different house too,I couldn't believe it.The pork and beans has the elk motif on the back and the boy fishing has sweet corn on the back.We also found a couple meds, common jars, acls, etc. but nothing real old in the way of glass. We hit one crawl that had about 40 embossed qt. milks but all but one were the same,an already super common local.I know, you want bottle pics but I am digging the cans.

They say you can learn alot about someone by digging through there trash.I learned the guy that lived in this house 80 yrs ago spent too much time out looking for bottles and too little time with the wife.

The Beer cans are Interesting, Are these found in the big city like Cincinnatti & downtown. I live about 1/8 of a Mile from Detroit & can literally see old abandoned house's across the street. I've always wanted to check out these old houses crawlspace's ect but a white boy in these neighborhoods snooping around not the best or safest idea but I know gotta be something good hiding out there. LEON.

Leon, I was finding these in a smaller city, but one not without it's fair share of the element you refer to.Carry a heavy flashlight and a big stick and bring a friend or six Don't yell Police when coming through the door or window. On this occasion,I had permission to be under these houses and would advise you to do the same.Years ago you probably would have got away with saying you were just checking for bottles and cans if approached, but metals theft is a major problem today and a guy in a celler or crawlspace looks mighty guilty.I have been under alot of houses in big cities to the sticks and alot of them have trash under them.I try to ask about the crawl space at most of my privy digs, you'd be suprised how many people will let you look somewhere they would never go.
