We dove again today in a sweet spot that has been throwing nice quart clay beers. In addition I pulled an unbelievably rare tiny town Wisconsin glass Co, hutch. The hutch was the real treat for me as this town is less than 20 miles away from my home and it has been on my top 5 want list for years! Here are a few pics!

Reverse sides of the clay beers, check out the fantastic cobalt crosses used as case markers on these!

The term case markers is used by many of the pottery beer collectors here in Wisconsin. The brewers had the potters mark their bottles with a special mark such as a blue cross, so when they came in for refill they would instantly know that they were their own bottles without having to pull out each bottle to check. I think these marks are what make the bottles so special. Hope that helps.

Nice stoneware bottles. They were all made in Akron, Ohio by  E.H. Merrill.

I have seen a lot of different pottery beers, only just debossed  with names for ID but never a blue cross ...interesting.  Thanks!

I like those GRAY bottles, especially because it's my last name.

Nice finds Tom,it must have been exciting finding all those pottery beers.I think the J.D. Vail is a St.Louis bottle but could be wrong.Hopefully someone more familiar with it will pipe up.Good luck out there.
