Does anyone know when these were most common. It's a generic bottle and the Owens mark should be either 1928, 38, 48 or possibly 58. It's an 8 anyway with the I+O+diamond. I know the books say 1929-54 but I'm giving leeway.

I saw a lot of them when we used to dig 30s-40s dumps (I don't miss those days). Most of them were embossed with the Kendall Oil logo on the base. ~Jim

If it's just an 8 then most likely 1938.

Hey Warren,  Are you referring to a bottle or a jar? All I have (1 ea), or have seen is a Kendall jar with the logo hand on it. Is that what we are talking about here??
It has no label on it
Thanks,  Marvin

Warren, I have a paper labeled jar somewhere probably about five inches high by around six inches in diameter. The label isn't in all that good of condition though. Is that the jar you are referring too, or is it a tall bottle of some kind ?

Yep Marvin, I guess it would be a jar and not a bottle. It was replaced by the oil can and later by the metal topped paper can and then by plastic.  The bottles were used in a rack and refilled at the beginning of each day.

Hey LC, Thats them.

I missed this before. It's marked duraglas so I guess 1948.

Hey Cap, I remember those jars.  We called them bulk oil jars.  There was a SOC station in one of the local towns.  They would fill those jars up from the bulk tank each morning and put them in a metal rack.  Seems like they all had that long metal snout for pouring screwed on.  Maybe some one can post a pic of a jar with the pouring spout attached.  That station made a killing for many years.  cheap gas and cheap oil.

I have one with a poor label, but have no idea where it is. Will try and locate it this afternoon. If I can find it, I will post a pic of it.

Do a search for "glass oil bottle" on ebay. You'll get different makes and shapes.

Thanks Eric, I have a few different ones of those.  I believe the one I am posting below is what Warren and Logueb were referring to.
Is this the one Fellers?

Yep Eric. That's the spout that I remember.  They kept the rack out by the gas pump.  They advertised "virgin" oil , which was probably bulk oil without any addatives.  They really sold that stuff, especially to those mosquito sprayers that were already using oil and smoking.

I also believe that being the oil companies are sticking it to us on gas prices and making huge windfall profits, and getting away with doing so, that the least they could do is to hire our Senators and other government officials that are letting them get away with it to man the gas pumps and pump our gas, and clean our windshields. At least I would know that they are good for something other than ruining this country as they have been doing for the past twenty years plus. I will even be glad to furnish one of the bottles for them to use.
