Most my insulators I find are small and white...I'll have to take a pic I have no idea about insulators...are these things worth anything?  I do like the color of it to....

The thrill of the hunt.  The fact that you love/like the color.  The suspense.  That is the true value of your find.  Wish I would tell you more :-)

Hello woodswalker;  Well you have a lot of homework to do!  Insulators are highly collectible and there are several books on them.  I have collected them for years but really do not study them enough.  I have seen some great old threadles ones that sold for some unbelievable prices - the highest I remember was $ 35.000.  When I get a chance I will send you a review of the books in my library on the subject.  RED M.

Those were made for telephone pole power lines and railroad lines.  Common = low value (except in what I said before)  The drip points on the bottom are generally preferred.  Besides books (which I highly recommend) here's a couple good websites:

Sorry I ruined the suspense part:-)..................................

Oh thats ok....I'll enjoy the sites anyway....This was the first big one I found....almost picked one up for the hell of it at the antique store but it was 6$...and I think about the same as the one I found.  My others are smaller and white...for electric fences....
And I do suppose if I will be finding these i may as well find out as much as I can about them....My Grandma has quite a collection...maybe she'll let me get a pic to show.....
Value is a interesting thing to know....but I always get a sentimental attachment to stuff....Even bottles and tiny tea set!!!

Amanda, I have the same problem... I buy stuff with the intent of reselling it, and then I think, "Heck, I'm only gonna make a dollar or two, why not keep it?"  My tiny collection (compared to some of our friends on this forum) is probably worth $200 to a novice, and worth nothing to a serious collector.  But I like them.  And that's what is important.

You got that right Mike!! If you like it enough buy it...maybe later part with it...most of my stuff I found myself and that would be the sentimental value...stuff I buy tho I like to d=find out if I got ripped or a deal...and then decide whether I like it enough to keep it...and most the time I do!!!  Its the thrill of the hunt I love tho and I have run out of dumps for the moment....so antique stores and flea markets are where I'll be till I find a new spot....Did some trespassing last night on the neighbors property was making me paranoid....didn't find anything but broken blob tops and a 6 foot long 2 man saw....that was one hell of a hike the mile back thru the woods I tell ya!!!
