Went snorkling in the local river again today with Chuck. We got some nice stuff and had a great time. Chuck is a human wet-vac, and has pulled up the bulk of the stuff so far. I'm learning slowly, but still spend most of my time flopping around in the current, and gagging on my snorkle thingy. I swallowed a gallon or two of questionable river water today. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.
Here's what we took home, can't wait to go again

My best of the day was this Boston squatty, pretty common, but I love diggin any squat soda from Boston ( can I still say 'diggin'? ), it feels weird to say I've been diving for bottles after all these years as a "land lubber"
Chuck got the base of a half pint Masonic flask, and the bottom 2/3 of a really really early pontiled SMALL size wine, like 1790s Dutch import type.

Crunchy pontil, and held to the light it was whittled amber like New England glass, rather than green, but I dont think Stoddard or anyone made this style

hi brim,  that is just too cool.   great finds.   lots of questions,  do have to be able to swim to do that?,  is the water deep?, does the water have to be clear?,  is the bottom mucky?, does your friend give lessons?, where is the pic of you in the water?.  to find all that in the water without haveing to be a diver is great.  good luck on your future flopping,    rhona

The crackel glass insulator probably got in a fire before it  ended up where you found it.  Eather that or it went through some form of extreem temperature change.  Post a picture of the other two insulators you got, they look like older ones.

The lid is for a PURITAN fruit jar RB# 2425/26. It is a hard one to find.

Hi Rhona-

It's a tidal river near an old village. Just about every town around here has some spot in it where old trash is laying around. The bottles here are between 1-15" deep of water. The water is mucky in spots depending on which way the current is going. I need a dry suit because I am just in my clothes diving, and after 2 or 3 hours I had the shakes, even though I didn't feel very cold. I still like land digging a lot better, but it's fun to have this alternative in the hot weather. Maybe if I hit a real jackpot down there I'll become a water guy, and buy a dry suit.

My worst nightmare in my whole life is like a phobia - and it is to see or find a dead body under the water - AAAAAUUUUGGGGGGHHHH such a gross thought. So it has impaired my diving/snorkeling career, which I've slowly but surely been conquering - the diving down in to the muck and darkness looking for bottles.
So Chuck and I snorkeled this river yesterday, and two days before that. So guess what was found this morning, not but 200 yards upstream from where we were diving? This isn't a joke ! What are the chances?

Way cool finds!

A body underwater would not be my idea of fun.  We were doing a dive in Gloucester, MA a few years back when the Coast Guard came by to tell us that someone had committed suicide just up aways by jumping in the water.  Needless to say we were a bit spooked that we might find the body.
