My project this winter is to dig out my basement and lay down pavers.
Its about 900 sq feet and I have to dig down about a foot on average so i'm moveing a bit of dirt. My 6 year old son picks out shards of pottery and glass when he see them.
Found an intersting dish shard tonight. Maybe someone knows where or when it came from?

...You haul sixteen tons and what do you get, another day older and deeper in debt...

Helped a friend do that about ten years ago, mall breaking work. We laid down two layers of heavy mill plastic and floated a pressure treated 2X4 floor over  it. Carpet was his choice of flooring. He still owes me a favor.

Lobes.

right in your own basement!!  do you think about diggin it always?  I think it would be hard to sleep knowing there could be treasures to be found.  watch out for black widows.  we have had to spray constantly, & still have a problem w/ them, tho not as bad as before we sprayed.  good luck.  (hope it's not 18 tons!)

All I know is, that shard with the trademark would be killer for a shadowbox.

That slipware is beautiful.I am sure some one can tell you something about it.I 'm guessing ONLY about 200 yrs. old or a little older. Bet the kid was having a blast.

It's hard to tell from my photo but that slipware has some really bright green designs on it. Different than the stuff I have found before that had more reserved colors.

It would be nice to find a couple whole items but I'm not holding my breath.
Its amazing how much excess dirt can build up in a basement over 200 years. Where does it all come from No black widow spiders but a lot of odd looking centerpedes. I'll try and post some photos from the destruction area if i get a chance.

I would guess alot of it came through the cracks in the floorboards off of shoes and boots.
