What a great forum! I have two large antique bottles that I would love more info on - they're 12" tall, extremely hefty/heavy, green glass, marked around the neck with the word "A-TREAT" in all caps:

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k414/nashbucket/bottle/bottle.jpg

There is no label, and it's clear there never was, which makes me think these are very old, perhaps the first production runs of A-treat soda (allentown, pa) at the turn of the century, maybe they made them this way prior to labels? Or maybe it's totally unrelated to them?

The only other markings on the bottles are on the bottom - "387-18", and what looks like possibly a squarish letter G inside a small square. Like the "A-TREAT", these markings are integrated/of the glass itself (not marked on as a surface stamp).

Any information would be super appreciated!

First off, Welcome to the Blueish teal pages of Antique-Bottles.net.!

I've been looking around for it, but I haven't been able to find the shoulder embossed one..
Apparently a lot of people still enjoy it: http://www.a-treat.com/, quit frankly I would try it.
The labeled ones sell pretty good, 10-30 bucks.
Not for sure about that one, need some soda guys to tell you more..

Welcome to the forum!

It's from around 1930-1950 somewheres, and it definitely had a paper label.

Looking around, it's hard to tell when they stopped embossing, but the company only started in 1918. Growing up in the Lehigh Valley, A-Treat was THE soda when I was a kid. More prized than Coke or Pepsi, because they have such unique flavors. I haven't had it in years, but it was awesome back in the day.

I'd love to see more pics.

Mom and Dad bought these in the late 1980s or so. I've got a call in for Dad to drag one up from the basement and try to get Mom to email me a pic.

They were labeled.

Now that you mention it, I do remember them being embossed and glass that late.

Here's one I drank about 20 years ago. Seems the mice like the glue used for the labels. They came 12 to a case. Wood case marked A-Treet. Pic to follow of that.

Best I can tell, I started collecting bottles around 1986 or so. I drug everything home - still do. I guess I saw the end of the deposit bottles coming. Dad and I used to seek out the remaining distributers and buy a couple cases at a time, until we could no longer get them. I think we got some of the last Crass that was filled. Special delivery by someone that knew someone that worked there.

I believe these A-Treats came from one of our trips up to the Poconos. I'm thinking somewhere right around 1990. They weren't my favorite bottles - I liked (and still do) ACLs and embossed better then paper labels. But this may have been our only option for deposit bottles at that stop.

A-Treat had different flavors. Some better then others, although I can't remember which were the good ones anymore.

I think some of the best was going down south and getting 16oz. Sunkist Orange and Sprite. I never much cared for Moxie, although I did drink one from time to time just to remind myself why I didn't like it.

My grandmother was a Coke fan and especially the 6 1/2oz. hobbleskirt. We've got probably 50 cases of them. Then they switched to the smooth round screw caps with the styrofoam labels. Couple different sizes of them. I'm sure there around someplace.

I'll try to get a pic of a whole case of these A-Treats tomorrow.

Neat! These are so heavy and thick that it didn't even occur to me that they might be modern(ish) era. Thanks everyone!
