Hi there, I'm having trouble getting any information on this item I acquired. Actually, a senile old lady friend of the family gave it to me as a gift. I'm thinking it's 50's era, but I'm not certain and a thorough Google search has yielded little.

It's a full bottle - never been used of "Eau de Cologne Des Freres Cordeliers Paris". It says "Contenance 1/4 Litre Made in France" on the side and "REF. 503" stamped on both sides of the original box.

ANY information, speculation or theories would be welcomed ... or if you can point me to where I could find out more would be great!

My theory is if you spray it on yourself you will smell like an old lady.

I'm not a perfume user myself, but to me it looks like you could probably buy a similar one in a store today! Sorry, but it definitely has no value from a bottle collector standpoint, maybe you can find an old lady who could use it...

That's for sure. By the way, welcome to the forum and you probably do have a bottle from the 1950's or 60's. Just guessing by the look. Does the bottom of the bottle have any marks? Sometimes that can help with dating.

I highly doubt it. The picture doesn't show it, but it's weathered and the typeface on the front and side looks definitely 50's era. Unused cologne from the 50's has to be worth SOMETHING. I've found out that the Cordeliers brothers had some association with a church (maybe they were monks?) and the company is long gone now. Other bottles from "Des Freres Cordeliers" that look somewhat similar are 60-80 Euros. So it definitely has some value. I just wish I knew more. Oh well.. I guess I'll have to look elsewhere... I appreciate the response though..

Oh and it's a cologne for me apparently.. not a perfume.

Thanks for the welcome, and the tip. There is a number "6" or a "9" depending on which way you look at it at the bottom. No other markings besides some glass imperfection. I meant to say in my other response that the box was weathered looking (not the bottle). Bottle looks pristine. There is an inner cardboard box, but it's blank. I might try to eBay it and see if there's demand for this sort of collectible. Looking at it though, it does feel like a bit of a time capsule.

Well, that base number doesn't help unfortunately. Best of luck with your research gathering of it. E bay is probably your best bet for resale.

Welcome Charlie,

Did'ya see this on yer way in:

A Buy it Now to watch, unblinkingly.

Welcome smuckasmuck,

Have you met charlie2.0?

Yours looks to be in that 1950's - 1960's style. It appears to be ACL (applied color label - a baked on paint kinda process.) The cloche shaped one above is a bit older.

I noticed there may be a stylistic accent in common with the Convent:

From. Here's a bit of not much help wiki-Cordeliers.

I agree with you that that electronic auction place is just the ticket.

Unused cologne from the 50's has to be worth SOMETHING. So it definitely has some value.

I'm gonna respectfully disagree with these statements...

I will just have to prove you wrong I guess. Not sure how you can "disagree" with that since one man's garbage can be another man's treasure as the saying goes. Considering the condition and the fact that it's completely unused, I fail to see how it doesn't pass ANY litmus test for "value" of any kind.

Thankfully, I'm not disuaded by your pessimism. There's a French site that buys/sells vintage frangrances and bottles. I've contacted them and they are interested in the item, so I'll keep you all posted how I make out. Even if it doesn't work out... there is definitely interest. And that's all I need to know...

surfaceone, thanks for that posting. Yes, that's one of only two images I've found of Des Freres Brothers. In this case the bottle is defintly older but the similar arch style adorns the box and my bottle as well.

charlie 2.0 . .. errr. thanks I think? I'm a big fan of 2001.. maybe Hal could figure ths one out? :)

Bottle collector wise it's a zero, there may be value to someone looking to smell like that, that's what I meant

Good luck...jim

I'm not going to argue about the value, it may have value to high end perfume people. We are bottle collectors on this site, telling you the bottle is worthless. It could be million dollar perfume, if so I'm happy for you.

But what makes you think it's old, even as old as the 50's? I see bottles almost exactly like that in department stores today. The contents are embossed in mL and ounces, it seriously can't be that old!
