I have a bottle that's been in my family for nearly 40 years. Was given to my father when I was a child by a woman who was nurse to a weathly woman in Carmel, California. The wealthy woman had a wine cellar full of stuff. The nurse was told to take 4 bottles of whatever she wanted for Christmas. She took the bottle of cognac to give to my dad. He kept it in the dark altho not in the coolest of conditions even tho we lived in Northern CA where the average temp is 68 degrees and overcast. LOL I've kept it wrapped in the little "sock" my father made for it but I've lived in Southern CA for almost 20 years now and it's not as cool here are NoCal. I've been told the alcohol is worthless but the bottle is not! So, I'd like to know what the bottle's worth and how I would go about selling it. I'm afraid it will end up a casualty the next time I move! Here is what I know about the bottle based on the label and a few photos. Thanks for your help!

Bottle of 1814 Godet Napoleon Cognac. The label and bottle are in excellent condition. Says it was an 1814 vintage imported to Tijuana, S.A. Bottle has intact seal but the cork is floating in the alcohol which has evaporated down to the top of the label.

I'd say welcome but I tend to dread winter.
I believe the 1814 is probably the year they started the brand. The bottle doesn't look to old. I'd need a little more info on how it was made but I'd guess 1930's or so. So your 40 yrs and some for the cellar.

I agree with Eric. Godet still makes high grade Napoleon brandy and cognac and the use 1700s and 1800s datees.

By the seal I'd say 1900 to 1920s.

Thanks for the help guys. Anyone have any idea if the darn bottle is worth anything? And if there is somewhere better than eBay to sell it? Even if it's worth $100 I'd rather have the $ in hand than have the bottle do an oopsie down a flight of stairs when I move. LOL

Well, I LOVE winter! 116 mph across the lake on my sled...good times!

I hate to be the messanger...but imo the bottle is worth 10-15 dollars and thats for the intact label...Keep It. In 40 years it might have that 100 value.
