First of all...I am a beer can collector.  I find alot of bottles while dumping for cans.  While dumping in Northern New Mexico I came across this bottle.  It is 8 oz and has the following wording on the label: R. W. Polhemus  Co. Inc.  Puughkeepsie  N.Y.  At the bottom is Registered  this Bottle not to be sold.  The glass is very thick on the bottle and it has a wire at the top which appears to have held a porcelin stopper at one time.  I'd appreciate any information on this bottle.  It was found in a dump that contained garbage from the 50's and 60's but I also found license plates from the 30's and 40's and this bottle.  thanks.  Also...does anyone out there have old beer cans they've found in dumps??

30's

In the last pic you are showing a crown top, if you could describe how the top and neck are finished it will help date the bottle. If the seam goes from the bottom to the lip it is an ABM bottle probably early 1910 range. If the seam stops on the neck it's a BIM 1890's to early1900's. Is there any oz. contents? Or can you give the
dimensions. Is there any thing marled on the bottom?  Right now I'd say soda? Below is a very good site for bottle collectors , check out the glossary for ABM, BIM, crown top. http://www.blm.gov/historic_bottles/index.htm

Thanks for the great information.  there is nothing written on the bottom of the bottle.  The seam on the bottle runs from the bottom to the top of the neck.  Where I found this bottle is the dump site for a family who's lived in a cabin for 3-4 generations...the cabin was built in the late 1870's.  i've only scratched the surface of this dump and have not reached the bottom in the middle.  Condition of what I'm finding is outstanding as the dump is at 8500' and protected by pine trees....Brad

Brad,

Sounds like you have a very good site to dig, if you have any more questions please feel free to ask. Be on the look out for western whiskies, or early Cokes, SS, 1915's, 1923's, and many other bottles. Good luck. Hopefully someone else can add more to your bottle posted here. BTW welcome.

As for Beer Cans....if you can still read the label on a can when it is found in a dump then it is worth saving.  We soak the rusty cans in Oxalic Acid which does a great job of removing rust without damaging the existing paint on a can.  Drop me a line if you find any like this!  thanks.....Brad

Robert W. Polhemus Co. Inc. Puughkeepsie N.Y
Listed in the 1925 bottlers universal. encylopedia as Orange Crush Bottling Works at 16 Wasington St.
I don't know when they started but they probably ended with the depression.
