I have had this threaded pithcher for a while now and I beleive it was manufactured in a New York state glass house sometime in the 1840 to 1860 period. It is in mint condition with no detracting attributes. It has a pontil and only lightly rests on three spots on the base so there is very little base wearThe pitcher stands 7 inches tall and six inches wide. The hand is very light in weight and is a hollow tube not a solid piece like the Clevengers made which is a dead give away as a reproduction. Anyones thoughts are welcome.

Picture number three. The color is not New Jersey as it is too blue in the aqua.

A picture of the pontil. This is an exceptionally clean piece of old glass and you can tell it was well taken care of by its owners.

Here is the same picture as the last with text added and showing where the bottle makes contact with the surface it rests on.

Steve,

Your pitcher has a NY look, however I don't ever recall a hollow handle in the NY glass. I have seen that mostly in Pittsburgh Glass, usually in clear. There were a few NY glasshouses in the 1840s, so naturally styles and treatments varied at each.

Here are three NY state pieces, and one Suncook NH piece (on the left). The form on the right is very typical of Redford, NY... the form, threading and heavy strap handle.

Mike

Question Mike the pitcher on the far right. It appears to have twin flattened figure eight lengths. Are the handles at the upper portion where they attach to the pitcher hollow.I have a pitcher like yours that this is the case.

Steve, It is a solid strap handle. I have seen 4 different sizes of this type of pitcher, all done by the same hand.

Mike, your pitcher looks like one blown locally (Central NY) at the Cleveland Glass works....

Although I am far from an expert, I can say with confidence that your pitcher is a New York piece. Judging from the form, techniques employed and color, I would favor Redwood or Redford as to its origin.

Though these do not substantiate my opinion... here's some interesting reading.
Redwood
Redford

Mark, I didn't see your pitcher... very nice! It has a similar strap handle as mine.

I have always seen these pitchers consistently attributed to Redford and Redwood, as Brian suggested. I would love to learn more about these NY glasshouses... the glassblowers, techniques, who has dug the sites, etc.

Brian, have you been researching Redford and Redwood?

I am of the strong opinion that both Mike and Mark's pitchers were blown at either Cleveland or Mount Vernon...

That heavy strap handle and the curl at the end should be easy to identify through glasshouse shards. I would love to know where they came from since I have seen this identical style quite a bit. As Jeff knows, they come in atleast 4 sizes. If Mt. Vernon, I would think that Mark has encountered these? I would love to see shards that help confirm the origin.

Steve, the glass came from a friend that lives near there. He got it from the Redwood site. I have been been to Redwood twice but never did any excavating there. I have been excavating on and off over the course of seven years at Mt. Vernon though. Which leads me to ask Jeff, (with the utmost respect) what elements would suggest Mt. Vernon? Cleveland is a very good possibility also as Mark and Jeff suggested.

From the  http://oldsouthjerseyglass.com What a great website to visit for old glass. This pitcher is either a Wistarburgh, Alloway New Jersey made product or Heston and Carpenter Glassboro New Jersey product. You can't get any earlier then this and you are looking at the pre begining period of the Northward migration of the German Glass blowers from New Jersey.

Plate 69 in McKearin shows a pitcher and double handled vase of very similar design to Mike and Mark's pitchers that is attributed to Mount Vernon...

These were not offhand or whimsical objects but rather production items made for local consumption.  As Mike states, they were made in four different sizes.  At one time I had three of them simultaneously, all in different sizes.

The pitcher front and center in this image is of the same ilk...
