My great-grandma had these bottles stored in her garage and gave them to me to start my own bottle collecting. I'm wondering if what I have is worth anything? Do the tax stamps on the top of each bottle mean anything?

Hello tiger829,  It looks like your bottles are quite new.  You have to show the bottom of a bottle to tell how old it is.   I came back here because I didn't realize the length of you page and the picture length.  RED M.

A hole with jagged glass around it would be groovy.Thats whats called an open pontil or punty rod scar. There are also different punty rod scars too. Many different types of molds or how the bottle was made can be told by what is on the base or bottom, sometimes even a date or glass manufacturers mark.Sometimes a date can be seen on the seal like on the caps of the bottles you have.

Before you click on Forums link to come in here, check out the Resources link and you will find all different types of bottles, lips, bases etc.to study.

An old bottle can be valuable if it is rare, but I have 150 year old bottles that are not because they made a million of them.A lot depends on the condition the bottle is in,sometimes the color,if it embossed(words on it)or a slick(no words, impossible to research),its age, rarity, etc.

Welcome to the forum and by asking questions and posting pictures you will get an education on bottles. What something is worth and what someone is willing to pay can be worlds apart. For example,if someone is collecting a certain type of bottle, like medicines, they may value a medicine more than an ink collector would.Good luck!

Hey Tiger,
As those guys noted, your bottles are quite modern. The contents (if a bottle is full) are probably better than the bottles themselves. These are not antiques. However, modern bottles can sometimes be collectible. Avon, Wheeton, Clevenger (spelling??) are a few modern bottles types that people will collect. The stuff you have pictured might be valuable someday (say in 100 years), but today, it isn't that desirable. Best of luck and I hope you wind up antique collecting.

I say, Party at Tigers house!  The contents are worth more than the bottles, unfortunately...so enjoy the contents (if they are full that is).
