I dug these oil cans today, and I was planning to sell them. But I don't know what I should do. So far, I have 3 options:

1. Sell them as is for someone else to clean.
2. Try to clean them myself.
3. Pay to have a professional clean them, and then sell them.

Does anyone have a recommendation for what I should do?

I'm going to agree with everyone. I don't think collectors will want them with that much rust unless they are one-of-a-kind rare. So, it doesn't hurt to give it a shot and see how it comes out. If it turns out a total failure, well, you didn't lose much. But if it cleans up nicely, maybe (and I'll think you'll need some luck here) maybe they'll have some value.

I could clean for you if you wanted to send them. Not sure if they would have much value though. If any of them are rare could have value. LEON.

None of them look to be rare or sellable to me , not trying to be sarcastic . I have sold a lot of gas and oil memorabilia over the years as well as collected them myself . I still have quite a few that I need to get rid of . Most all the collectors I dealt with were very picky as to the condition of cans especially . If one found a rare one such as the condition as yours , they might keep it as a shelf piece till they found a good one .

i know you can buy it at a hardware store but it goes under another name i believe its called wood bleach.or you can order it online i think the place is called chemistry store.com or something like that.it comes in a powder and you add it into a pail or tub of some sort.you can do one can at a time or multiple but you shouldnt do it in enclosed place because of fumes and must use rubber gloves that go up to elbow .there are directions on how to use it either on this site or a website called the rusty bunch.i have used this product and it does work on cans it should make yours look pretty good just from what i've seen.i've cleaned much worse. badger
