Found this a while ago and I finally decided to spruce it up a little and use it as a door stop or something. Still have some work to go. Did I do good so far though?

Before benchgrinding. I used some electroplating to try to get some of the caked on dirt off

Here it is after I bench grinded her with some thick bristles

Hello Kenneth,

Welcome to the boards. Nice job on the Sad Iron, or is it a goose. It really came out well. Are there any markings discernable?

Thanks surfaceone, and nice picture by the way The iron has some markings under the handle. I can't even begin to make out what it says. I'm going to do some more brushing to see what i can get. So far it looks like an H and a few other characters. Two O's or zeros are next to each other it looks like.

Kwalker did you use electroplating or electrolysis? I can't quite see how electroplating would help because that puts metal sheets onto other metals not take them off. Electrolysis is what takes the rust and corrosion off, its very helpful when finding and cleaning old metal objects while searching for bottles and it doesnt cost that much to put together.

For some reason, I love those old irons and have a small collection. Appears like it cleaned up pretty good considering how it looks in the first pic.  ~Mike
