Me and my Bro got out today and hit an early hole. I got the permission a few weeks ago and followed it up today. I don't have  time to post any pics but the best three finds were an "All Right" fruit jar, a scroll flask, and a pipe with the face and name of Franklin Peirce. It's fantastic! Hopefully Craig will post a photo of it soon. I also got some pretty good shots and a little action footage also.

My buddy Charlie, My brother Craig and I got the bonus of digging two holes in one yesterday. By the time I showed up at the hole my brother had been there over a half hour and had chipped the asphalt into a rectangular outline. We knocked out that and had to tackle about 4" of concrete that hadn't lost a bit of it's strength due to age. But once below the pavement it was about two feet or so of very soft cinders. There it was the wall of our first "Brick-Liner". The first bottle to come out was embossed "KENNEDY'S / SALT RHUEM. / OINTMENT" Nice bulbous shaped bottle. Then it was a mix of Broken and a few unbroken bottles until the find of the day. Here it was....A "Face-Pipe" in Redware and it was embossed on the lapel "President" (on one side) and "FR. PIERCE"(on the other).
While finishing up the first hole I noticed a hole in the brick. After a little digging and probing it turned out to be a 3 sided woodlined privy. The first broken bottle to come out was local. "PHILO CLARK" / "STEUBENVILLE, O." there was also one I had dug before that I really liked. Jesse H. Lippencott Pittsburgh. Tapered sauce bottle. Heres a few photos of the dig.

The "All Right" jar is nice.
The Red Book #9 lists it at $250-300 with the correct lid.

Great finds Zane. Very cool pipe. Nothing like digging around in some 100++ year old dudu for bottles.

Very nice finds. Love the scroll flask. I too had dug an "All Right" quart back in the mid 80's with no lid/clamp. Back then I had purchased a very nice reproduction closure for the jar from the late Phil Robinson. Very well-made & cost was $9.00.

Nice work.  I'm gearing up for my first privy dig. A neighbor lives in a farm house built in 1763 and told us to go for it. Any tips?

Nice Dig! That All Right is one of my favorite jars. Woody put it a little too high, cleaned with a repro stopper, it would bring around $90-125, still very nice. PM me if you want a link to the guy who took over Phil Robinson's repro clamp biz.
way cool

Not only that but how do you know that there is a privy underneath in the 1st place? Digging up a dirt yard with no results is one thing but digging up asphalt? I suggested that maybe they are using GPR but I haven't received an answer yet.

Its often fairly obvious when there is a big sink hole in the pavement. You know its either a privy or giant moles

These pipes must have been popular during the politian's campaign.
For anyone whom might not know, Franklin Pierce was the 14th US president.

Here are photos of a broken kaolin Pierce pipe I found in a confederate civil war winter camp.
