My buddy Charlie, My brother Craig and I got the bonus of digging two holes in one yesterday. By the time I showed up at the hole my brother had been there over a half hour and had chipped the asphalt into a rectangular outline. We knocked out that and had to tackle about 4" of concrete that hadn't lost a bit of it's strength due to age. But once below the pavement it was about two feet or so of very soft cinders. There it was the wall of our first "Brick-Liner". The first bottle to come out was embossed "KENNEDY'S / SALT RHUEM. / OINTMENT" Nice bulbous shaped bottle. Then it was a mix of Broken and a few unbroken bottles until the find of the day. Here it was....A "Face-Pipe" in Redware and it was embossed on the lapel "President" (on one side) and "FR. PIERCE"(on the other). While finishing up the first hole I noticed a hole in the brick. After a little digging and probing it turned out to be a 3 sided woodlined privy. The first broken bottle to come out was local. "PHILO CLARK" / "STEUBENVILLE, O." there was also one I had dug before that I really liked. Jesse H. Lippencott Pittsburgh. Tapered sauce bottle. Heres a few photos of the dig.
