It's been a little lean on digs since that last privy a few weeks ago,...Fred and I have been trying to get a dig going for the last few weekends,....but It's been always something....Today was going to be me and Penn Digger's annual pilgrimage to the Buffalo NY bottle show,...it's not too far away, and in the past we've picked up some great bottles cheap... It's about an hour and a half away (that's with Tom driving) Two hours for most mortals....anyhow,...I was looking forward to going,...went to bed at a decent hour....Awoke at  8:30 am... We all know that feeling,...Alarm clock never went off! I checked and it was one setting past alarm on the damn switch. So I stumbled downstairs to about 7 messages from Tom,....bummer,....He's already headed out,...(rightfully so)...After some coffee, the bottle monkey started in on me,..."Okay sleeping beauty,...where you going to get your bottle fix now?" Huh?...Where indeed? I call Fred..."Wanna dig?....Sure do,...Okay where?... Let's go back to the old B****** Farm from last year....so we did. We stayed long enough to remember we need a battery Sawzall for the roots,...but we got a few and went home happy....Didn't take the camera, but maybe I can use a few pics from last season for those that weren't around....       Pics coming right up....

Alright,...it seems as though a lot of those pics are erased from the cam,...but I found a couple....This is the overall muck fest for those that weren't around last fall,....although it was drier this year to where we could dig,..heavy wet mud but not flowing oatmeal,....  Interesting too to note that we'd not been back here since last fall, and you couldn't really tell we'd even dug there...

We tried to remember where we'd alread dug, and had some fair sucess, the bottles were just under the water/slop line last year and It was very difficult to dig them without doing damage,....so right away this little slick popped out....Oh well,...real nice color.

We were taking a break and the roots were giving us a run for our money,...I asked Fred if he'd found anything back under the bank where he'd been digging,..He jokes "no, but if you look, you probably will"...two swipes of the rake and out pops a Piso's cure" (They loved this stuff).

Then, at least we each had one bottle apiece, and were getting abit tired....I was still crouched down in my spot, and happened to glance back under the roots....Hey, that's a bottle bottom!...looked like a Sarsaparilla or something like one...went to dig it out and turned around for some more manuvering space and lost it.....thought I found it again but it was a different bottle.... cool, hope they're whole....So I dug what looked like a square amber bitters form bottle out of the bank...nope,...aqua, but original contents...sure fooled me till I held it up to the light...

Okay,...So that meant the first bottle bottom I'd seen was still back unde there.....It was really packed in and took alot of wiggling and scratching around it to get it out,....It was a med? I've not seen,...aqua and side embossed..."Dr's. F.E. & J.A. Greene"  New York and Boston, on other side...

Funny how as soon as bottles start appearing you get a second wind quickly... We went back to fighting the densely packed roots and at the waterline, Fred dug a smaller version of this bottle..."H.F. UREY, Druggist"...That was it for our ambition, because we moved a LOT of dirt before we got back down to where the bottles were, but we'll be going back with our battery powered sawzall soon...  Thanks everyone for checking it out...It sure felt good to dig again.

The bottles that still have their contents are really interesting to me.  If I were a chemist, I'd ****yze the ingredients.  That would be fun.

Hey Joe, glad to see back at it.  I remember the mud dig you guys did last year.  Real yukky but some good bottles.  I use to probe a spot like that years ago in a slough where the creek changed courses and left  a mud caked flat.  I never dug becaus of all the roots.  I may have to check out that place this winter.  Nice finds and keep up the good work.  Buster.

Yeah, I don't know what was in that one bottle, but I think they must have thrown it out half used, because it stinks.  Joe thinks it smells nice.  I am just curious as to what it was.  It has a camphor smell.  Joe thinks it may not have been a medicine.  What could it be???

Joe looks like another successful expedition
Great bottles I like the square aqua with the contents. Is it goopy or semi clear? Take care of that cork or it'll dry up and fall in. I've gone down to my bottle room and found that a bottle full of some thing is stinking up the cellar cause I thought it'd be cool to keep it
That was a great looking slick. That's what I call a window bottle
Nice dump A little soupy though
Thanks for posting

I like it's smell because my grandmother, and my mother did oil paintings,....and my father was an old school painting contractor, back in the day,...(think linseed oil, Red and White lead, tinting base, etc),...since this concoction has a strong turpentine smell, and pleasant associations...I like it!

And while were talking of the old days,...I forgot to post one bottle that was stashed in my mud boot,...Oh,..the nostalgia of digging this guy!,...Back at the "radio station" dump in the seventies, I used to dig these in every color,....citron, cornflower blue, aqua, clear, and of course amber...where have they all gone? (Bixby Bill, I suspect)... anyhow I was both happy and sad to dig this "common" bottle,...which I realized today ain't so common anymore,....here's why.
